On March 15, 1980, Dr. Milly E. Cowles became the second dean of the School of Education, becoming the second female named as a dean at UAB and the first female dean of a non-health science school. Cowles had joined the UAB faculty in 1973. When she retired in 1987, Dr. Cowles was named as a Distinguished Service Professor by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.Image ID: P23.3
