The Sterne Rare Book Collection contains over 3,400 published works from the 18th through the 20th centuries in a wide range of disciplines, from the arts and humanities to the social and natural sciences. The collection includes concentrations in English and American literature, American history, religion, and theology. Sheet music, sermons, state laws, and Civil War reports are just some of the types of materials located here. The images on this page represent a selection of the Sterne Rare Book Collection's interesting items.
Select items from the Sterne Rare Book Collection related to social, political, cultural, and economic aspects of the late antebellum period leading up to the Civil War have been digitized as part of a project by the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), Civil War in the American South. These can be located through the ASERL site and on the UAB Digital Collections.
