What is the Courier Service?

The UAB Libraries Courier Service moves eligible UAB library materials from one library location to another library location on campus, by user request.

Who can use the Courier Service?

UAB faculty, staff, and students

  • Request circulating materials to be delivered to a selected UAB branch library for pick-up.
  • Request non-circulating materials from remote storage, excluding rare materials, to be delivered to Sterne Library or Lister Hill Library for on-site use.

Non-UAB library users

  • Request circulating materials from remote storage to be delivered to Sterne Library or Lister Hill Library.
  • Request non-circulating materials from remote storage, excluding rare materials, to be delivered to Sterne Library or Lister Hill Library for on-site use.

How do I request materials?

UAB faculty, staff, and students

  • Go to “My Library Account” to log in, then “New Search” to locate the desired item. Open the item’s record and click on "Request."
  • For non-circulating items from remote storage, excluding rare materials, use the request form.

Non-UAB library users

  • Use the request form to have items from remote storage delivered to Sterne Library or Lister Hill Library. Ask the HUB desk at Sterne or Lister Hill for assistance.

How are deliveries confirmed?

UAB faculty, staff, and students will receive an automated email from UAB Libraries once items are available for pickup.

Non-UAB library users will receive an email from the courier service indicating expected availability of the requested items.

Materials will be held at the selected library’s desk for seven (7) business days.

How long does it take? / What is the delivery schedule?

Requests are processed Monday-Friday, and items should be available for pickup within 2-3 business days. The courier service is closed evenings, weekends, and UAB holidays. Items can be picked up at the specified library during business hours; check the library’s hours for details.

Where can I have my items delivered to?

Circulating items can be delivered to your choice of the branches listed below:

  • Mervyn H. Sterne Library
  • Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences
  • Lister Hill Library at University Hospital

Non-circulating items from remote storage, excluding rare materials, can be delivered to Sterne Library or Lister Hill Library for on-site use only.

Materials will be held at the selected library’s desk for seven (7) business days, and can be picked up during normal business hours. For Lister Hill Library at University Hospital, please confirm staff availability at 205.934.2275.

Where can I return items?

Items can be returned to any UAB library or UAB library book drop. For Lister Hill Library at University Hospital, please confirm staff availability at 205.934.2275.

To assure that your checked out books are safely received by the library in a timely manner, do not return books via campus mail.
