The UAB Archives is the official repository for the University of Alabama at Birmingham and seeks to advance knowledge concerning the origins, mission, and programs of UAB. The Archives also seeks to encourage efficient records management, which ensures UAB records of enduring historical value will be identified for inclusion in the Archives. Personal papers and corporate collections, those materials that are not university records, are also collected to document UAB's role in the city, the state, and in the health sciences environment. The papers of private individuals are also collected.
The UAB Archives collects and preserves a wide variety of materials, including original institutional records, manuscripts, letters, memos, photographs, scrapbooks, ledgers, audio/visuals, and university publications, ephemera, objects, and realia.
Please note that patient records from University Hospital are maintained by the hospital. Patient records from UAB clinical areas and from individual healthcare professionals within the university are maintained by those specific offices. For medical records requests, refer to the UAB Medicine website.
Student transcripts and student records are maintained by the Office of the Registrar. For student academic record requests, refer to the website of the Office of the Registrar.
