Sterne Library
Instructors
Instructors may place books, photocopies, select links to websites, or articles in UAB licensed databases on a reserve list for a class by filling out a course reserve request form. Items to be placed on Reserve may be part of the library's existing collection or instructors may place personal items in the library. The course reserve form may be filled out in person at the Sterne HUB desk or online using this electronic form.
Students
Reserve materials are available at the HUB and may be checked out with a valid UAB identification card. Most Reserve materials may be checked out for a short time only and usually must be used in the library, but some may be checked out overnight. (Loan periods are set by the instructors when the items are placed on Reserve). Students will be informed of return time or date at checkout.

FAQs

Instructors may place physical books, photocopies, links to websites, or e-books and articles from UAB-licensed databases.

Can I put some scanned material on electronic reserve?
No, due to copyright restrictions UAB Libraries houses only physical course reserves, links to electronic sources that are available on the internet, or links to items in databases to which we have licensed access.

Is there any way to give students access to scanned material for course readings?
The most convenient option and the one that offers faculty the most flexibility is to utilize Canvas. Canvas tutorials are available from UAB’s Division of eLearning and Professional Studies' Canvas information page.
