Sterne Library welcomes nursing moms! We are very pleased to offer a lactation room that is secure and private. The lactation room is available to UAB faculty, staff and students whenever the Library is open. Moms may nurse their babies in the room, or use a pump.

  • What's in the lactation room?

    There are two cubicles separated by privacy curtains. Each cubicle has a comfortable recliner, a table, and an electrical outlet.

    There's also a sink and paper towels. At this time, we do not provide refrigeration or a pump.

  • Where is the lactation room?

    The doorway to the lactation room is inside the ladies' restroom on the first floor of the Library.

  • How do moms access the lactation room?

    It's pretty simple! Here are the steps:

    • Visit the Sterne Library HUB service desk.
    • Present a BlazerID, and a staff member will assist you in accessing the lactation room.
  • What are the rules?

    Please clean up after yourself.

  • Are there other lactation rooms at UAB?

    There are several lactation centers on the UAB campus. The centers are an initiative of the UAB Commission on the Status of Women.
