Don’t let the anxiety and stress of finals get to you. The LibLab in Sterne Library, located across from the Sterne Library HUB Desk, has an incredible selection of virtual reality apps and activities that can help you escape the pressures of finals week. Take a walk with dinosaurs or explore space with Nature Trek VR. Build something in Google Blocks. You can even make imaginative sculpture using virtual clay in Masterpiece. These are just a few examples of the wide variety of virtual reality apps available in the LibLab. We encourage everyone to stop by and give virtual reality a try. The LibLab in Sterne Library will be open, 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. during final exams December 6-9.

We’re having a Halloween raffle to promote our virtual reality equipment. The LibLab in Sterne Library (located across from the Sterne Library HUB desk) and the Lister Hill Library Virtual Reality Studio (located in Lister Hill Library room 110, near the HUB desk) are library technology labs with virtual reality headsets including the VIVE Pro and Oculus Quest. Stop by either virtual reality space before 1:00 pm on October 29th to enter a raffle to win candy and a 3D printed surprise.
Multiple entries are allowed for the raffle and entrants do not have to be present at the drawing to win. Library Technology Labs staff are not eligible for the raffle.
For more information on technology available in the UAB Libraries technology labs visit the Library Technology Labs page on the UAB Libraries website or browse our technology collection pages in OneSearch.
On behalf of the UAB Libraries DEI Task Force, we would like to commemorate the brave individuals who have been impacted in one way or another by breast cancer. As the month of October comes to an end, we would like to provide those who are interested with some useful resources from the CDC (pdf) as well as the FDA (pdf). Please keep in mind that while rare, men can get breast cancer too. In addition to this information, we are giving away breast cancer awareness pins and stickers while supplies last. Pick up yours at either the HUB desk at Lister Hill or at Sterne Library. We also invite you to wear pink tomorrow Thursday, October 28th as a sign of solidarity for those impacted by breast cancer.
