Historical Note | Samuel Richardson Hill, Jr. (1923-2003), received his education at Duke University and the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. In 1954 he was recruited by Dr. Tinsley R. Harrison to Birmingham where he became the first director of the Endocrinology division. Dr. Hill remained in Birmingham for the rest of his life. He was eventually appointed dean of the medical school, vice president for Health Affairs, and he served as the second president of UAB from 1977 until 1987. Scope and Contents | This collection of 169 photographs document the life and professional career of Dr. Hill and includes numerous Hill portraits over the years, an extensive photographic history of the Woodward House (since 1969 the official home of the UAB president), and numerous UAB colleagues and employees. |
