Historical Note | Martha E. Pugh grew up in Montgomery County, Alabama, and graduated from Montgomery's Sidney Lanier High School. In 1961 she graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery and that fall matriculated into the school of medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. While in attendance at the Medical College of Alabama, Pugh served as the Secretary-Treasurer of her class and as editor of the school yearbook, Progress Notes, in 1965. Pugh received her M.D. in the spring of 1965, then completed an internship at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She also completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation and a residency in internal medicine, both at St. Paul Hospital. Dr. Pugh spent her entire career working in Texas. She served as medical director of the Rehabcare Unit at the West Houston Medical Center. Dr. Pugh is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is a member of the International Association of Healthcare Professionals. She is an active member of the alumni association of the UAB medical school and she has served as association vice-president and as a board member. Dr. Pugh is now retired from medical practice. |
