Historical Note | In 1961 the Jefferson County Medical Society moved into a new headquarters that had been constructed adjacent to the Birmingham Medical Center. In 1985 the JCMS and the University of Alabama at Birmingham agreed to jointly administer a new archival repository to collect history of the health sciences material and the new JCMS/UAB Health Sciences Archives was established. The venture was disbanded in 1992 and the university established its own archival repository. In 1994 all the material that had been housed in the JCMS/UAB entity was transferred to the UAB Archives. |
Scope and Contents | Includes photocopies of statistical tables, research papers, published works, reports, etc., that documents the history of the health sciences in the City of Birmingham, in Jefferson County, in the State of Alabama, and (to a lesser degree) the Southeastern US. |
