Historical Note | Anne Findley (1928-2009) was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and in 1949 earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama. She then entered the School of Medical Technology at the Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham from whence she received her certification in 1950. She accepted a position as a medical technologist in the research laboratories at the University's medical center in Birmingham. She remained there until 1970. Anne Findley married James L. Shores, Jr., in 1957 and they were the parents of two children. During her employment at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Shores worked in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Sterling Teague, chair of the Department of Pharmacology. In 1971 Shores earned a master's degree in Education from UAB. Outside of UAB, Shores was a very active member of the Birmingham chapter of the League of Women Voters and in 1976 was an unsuccessful candidate for a position on the Homewood City Council. She died in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was buried in her hometown of Tuscaloosa. |
