Lister Hill Library has 19 study room spaces available for currently enrolled UAB students seeking to hold short-term collaborative or individual study sessions. Reservations can be made online or in person the same day or a day in advance. Persons making a room reservation must report to the LHL HUB service desk to check out the room key, and groups with reservations must have at least 2 party members present to check out a key.
Who can reserve?
- An individual with a valid UAB ID can reserve rooms 175, 177, 179, 181, and 183
- Groups of 2 or more with a valid UAB ID can reserve rooms 128, 132, 145, 147, 149, 153, 155, 165, 167, 169, 171, 173, 185, and 187
- Room 155 is a larger room and can accommodate up to 10 people. This room is for larger groups or groups who need to use AV equipment. It can be used a presentation prep room. A video projector can be reserved to use in this space
- We apologize, but due to limited space, reservations are limited to UAB users only
What is available?
- Five small study rooms for single use or up to 2 people, and fourteen group study rooms that seat up to 6 people (room 155 accommodates up to 10 people)
- Each room has a networked connection, glass board, markers and erasers, and provides access to the UAB WIFI
- Room 147 also has the collaboration Media-scape station
- Room 149 also has a VIA collaboration station which enable teleconferencing
- Room 155 is set up to accommodate larger groups of up to 8-10; a video projector can be used in this room, check availability at the HUB desk
How long?
- Reservations are limited to 3 consecutive hours per day, per person
- Rooms may be reserved for the current day and the next day only
- Reservations are held 15 minutes
- Individuals holding the reservation must report to the LHL HUB desk to check-in and checkout the room key.
- At least two members of the party holding a group reservation must report to the LHL HUB desk to check out the room key.
- Room keys cannot leave the building, individuals found violating this portion of the policy will be subject to receive a fine and/or losing the privilege to make future room reservations.
- All keys must be returned to the LHL HUB desk at the end of the reservation period; persons not following this portion of the policy will be subject to receive a fine and/or may lose the privilege to make future room reservations.
- Leaving items in a room does not constitute a reservation; items left behind and unattended for longer than 15 minutes will be removed by library staff.
Restrictions:
- Rooms are not intended for continuing activities such as classes or standing meetings
- Group study room users must maintain a moderate noise level to avoid disturbances
- LHL is not responsible for items left in rooms; items left unattended for longer than 15 minutes will be removed by library staff
- Groups must return the key to the LHL HUB desk when they leave the group study room and room keys cannot be taking outside the library
- Walls, furnishings, and glass must not be defaced. No pictures or other items may be attached to the walls or surface; windows or door glass must not be covered in any way
- Groups must clean up after themselves and leave the room in good condition including erasing the glass board
- Fines accrue at .05 cents per minute that keys are returned late, $3 per hour with the maximum amount of $50
- Loss of a key will incur a replacement charge of $60
Procedures:
- Reservations can be made in person, by phone (205-975-4821), and online
- If reserving by phone, please provide the following information:
- Name, phone number, email address and school affiliation
- Number of people in group (if reserving a group study room)
- Date & time period (i.e., 2-5 pm)
- Report to the LHL HUB desk to checkout room key (groups must have 2 members present to checkout keys)
- All keys must be returned to the LHL HUB desk at the end of the reservation
