I. UAB Libraries Access Guidelines

To continue to meet UAB’s mission pillar of community engagement, non-UAB visitors are allowed access to the libraries during limited hours as described below.

Special hours and access during holidays and breaks may apply. See the library website for details.

II. Physical Access Policy for UAB ONE Card holders

UAB ONE Card holders will need to use their cards to access Lister Hill Library and Mervyn H. Sterne Library during all hours that the libraries are open. ONE Card holders may be allowed to bring non UAB Affiliated guests with them into the building during visitor hours. No special arrangements are needed to access. All valid ONE Card holders will have access automatically. Library hours are online at https://library.uab.edu/hours.

III. Physical Access Policy for Visitors

The UAB Libraries welcome visitors (non-UAB affiliated users) during the following hours:

Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Sunday: 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Mervyn H. Sterne Library
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Sunday: 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Visitors are required to provide a current school, university, or other photo ID. Only currently enrolled UAB students, faculty, and staff are permitted to enter or remain in library buildings outside the hours listed above. Library patrons are required to observe all library policies.

IV. Computer Access for Visitors

Library visitors with a valid photo ID may use one of the libraries’ public computers for research purposes by requesting a guest password at the HUB desk in the Sterne Library or the Lister Hill Library. Visitor use of library computers is subject to availability and should be limited to one hour. Guest passwords are valid only on the day they are issued.

Library visitors must comply with the UAB Acceptable Computer Use Policy.
