Updates include smarter search suggestions, improved filters and clearer search results when browsing for books, articles, journals and digital collections.
“Updating our catalog to a new interface has upped the game for our users,” said Beth Hall, systems librarian for UAB Libraries. The move was organized and executed by Library IT Services, part of the Technology and Technical Services Team in UAB Libraries. “Not only does it look cleaner and more modern, but it’s easier to navigate overall, whether you’re working from your phone or your laptop or desktop.”
Additionally, users who sign in with their BlazerID and password can see a refreshed version of their personal UAB Libraries account, where they can manage loans and requests, save favorites, keep search history, and create alerts for new additions to the catalog.
In keeping with UAB’s commitment to digital accessibility, catalog updates also include enhanced keyboard avigation features, screen reader support, improved color contrast, and accessible digital content viewing tools.
“We are committed to ensuring all Blazers can access and use the catalog easily and efficiently,” Hall said.
Blazers who wish to browse UAB Libraries’ Digital Collections also can do so more easily using the new catalog interface, which features preview-supported PDFs and images embedded directly within a calendar listing, plus additional built-in accessibility features and multiple viewing layouts to improve the research experience.
