The new FlashForge Adventure 3Employees and students interested in learning to use UAB Libraries’ filament and resin 3D printers can attend in-person workshops in Lister Hill Library through Nov. 19.

During the trainings, Blazers are given access to printer queues for both Sterne Library and Lister Hill Library 3D printing via 3DPrinterOS. 3DPrinterOS is a cloud-based system that lets users monitor the ongoing print queue to see when printers are available and check the progress of their jobs; several of the 3D printers managed in 3DPrinterOS have cameras attached so users can watch how their prints are progressing. Users also automatically receive a time-lapse video of their items being printed via email once the objects are complete.

The LibLabs in Sterne and Lister Hill Library also are home to four new printers. Two Bambu H2D Pros now are available — one in Sterne and one in Lister — and are equipped with dual nozzles, enabling users to print using two materials at once in about half the time, said Patrick Boggs, technology labs manager for UAB Libraries. The LibLab @ Lister Hill also has added a Prusa XL printer, which prints using five individual print heads, enabling users to print using five materials at once, and the LibLab @ Sterne has added a FlashForge Adventure 3, a compact, single-extruder printer.

“Adding these four new printers will help us make the 3D-printing experience even better for our patrons,” Boggs explained. “And with faster print times, we can accommodate more projects than ever.”

Workshops run roughly 1.5 hours and are scheduled through Nov. 19 in the LibLab @ Lister Hill (Room 110); find them on the Campus Calendar.
